About Us
Durwood B. Wilson is an Alabama native born in Enterprise Alabama. He is an United States Army veteran, where he spent 11 years on active duty. He graduated from two Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tuskegee University and Alabama A&M. At Tuskegee, he majored in Agri-Business Education where he developed a love for teaching children and a love for Black History.
Mr. Wilson is also a retired educator and administrator. Upon retiring from the military, he attended Alabama A & M University in Huntsville, Alabama to pursue a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. After graduating, he became employed by the Montgomery County Board of Education in Montgomery, Alabama, where he taught elementary school for four years as a fifth-grade teacher. The remainder of his time was spent as an administrator at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
After twenty-three years, Mr. Wilson retired from public education to actively pursue his dream of owning a Black History Museum to display his personal Heritage Collections which includes over 700 artifacts collected over a period of 25 years.
